Sharing Our Stories: Ancient Stories for Today’s Times………
In the city of Cleveland, our story-telling event usually takes place in at least two different locations: a public library on the east-side, a public library on the west-side and (centrally located) Cleveland State University. We bring storytellers from up to five different cultures: Native American, Jewish, African-American, Hindu and Islamic.
At each location, four story tellers dramatize or tell a story which highlights qualities and characteristics that promote human growth and development. Their stories relate to themes of family, friendship, cooperation, building community, peace, and unity. Then the audiences are invited to ask questions and share comments. Local musical entertainment, complementary to the theme is often a part of this engaging, educational and entertaining program.
How does this project strengthen our community?
Everyone loves a good story. And, if good stories are told with morals and ideas to motivate better human character and conduct, all the better. Further, if such good stories are told in a setting with varieties of people from varieties of cultures, then the community is enriched. Our story-telling project promotes understanding, a sense of community and unity amongst a variety of people of all ages.
The multicultural and artistic approach of Sharing Our Stories: Ancient Stories for Today’s Times invites participation from a wide variety of people. This wholesome family event appeals to a multicultural base of citizens of ages; it is an open community event.
